Missed Credit Card Payment

Options
Hi,

I am not sure if i am posting this in the right place or if anyone is even able to help me.

Basically i got home from work on wednesday and my credit card bill had arrive i opened it never read it because it was so late and sat it in my kitchen to look at on thursday. i got home thursday night(last ngiht) from work to have another credit card bill. thought that was a bit odd opened it to see it was telling me i hadnt paid my last bill and was now in arrears and all the usual stuff they tell you, and my payment was due for this bill. so i checked the one i got on wednesday to discover it was my dec bill and the payment date was 26th dec, i phoned virgin straight away, they refunded the charges but said any markers put on my credit record they wouldnt remove as it was my problem i didnt get the bill not theirs they sent it out on time.

The thing is i have never in my life missed a payment or even been late for a bill, i also never just pay the minimum amount so they can see this is totally out of the ordinary for me. i know it was my own fault for not realising i hadnt recieved a bill.

i was just wondering if anyone new what i could do to try and sort the credit score or any hints on letters i could write just explaining this has never happened before i always pay well before my bills are due and always 4 times the amount of the minimum payment so not paying at all one month is completely out of character. also the big problem is i could loose my job having this sort of mark on my credit score, so i will be speaking to my manager today.

any advice or hints or anything anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance xx

  • Hi - are you sure you are not stressing too much about this? You are going to have 1 late payment marker - it happens to the best of us and just 1 of them is unlikely to have any effect at all (I certainly can't believe your job would be at risk). You are unlikely to be able to get it removed (as it was late) but there is no harm giving them another ring and pleading with them. But the main thing is don't worry if its a one off - it will drop off your report eventually anyway.
  • Yes, you will be fine as long as long as every credit agreement does not start to get 1 missed payment, 2 missed payments etc.

All I can say is don't rely on the post and most statements says these days with bad weather, post problems etc they can't be held responsible if these arrive late - Set up a Standing Order, Diary Date or even a Minimum Payment Direct Debit to avoid these charges in future as they may not remove them again and then saves these markers being on your Credit File..

But, it happens to all of us i've done it once! - Fine as long as you don't make it a regular thing.

I agree with bobbydrake50, I always pay my bill on time barring one occasion in 2009 and it still didn't effect me successfully applying for 3 credit cards last year!
