WARNING! Lexmark S... and PRO... printers

Lexmark recently released some new firmware for these printers - your printer driver is probably popping up messages recommending you upgrade.
DON'T UPGRADE if you use, or think you ever may want to use, third party (not made by lexmark) cartridges
The new firmware will detect that you have copy cartridges and your printer will no longer work until you replace them with lexmarks own brand cartridges.
worse still, it appears there's no way to downgrade the firmware.
From information gleaned from the internet, the company are currently under investigation by the OFT and trading standards for this practice - which has been reported to them as "anticompetitive"
As of tonight, I no longer have a working printer. I hope, if you have one, you read this before it's too late
Apologies if this has already been posted.

Warning - Lexmark was enough for me.
Besides not being particularly good printers, they have always been horrendously expensive for consumables, a lesson I learnt in..um...mid 90s. I'm not sure anybody buys a 2nd Lexmark, and I consider the purchase of the 1st one of life's little lessons.
