Hi all,
My friends laptop died and i managed you use an Xp live cd to get in and make a complete back up of his hard drive, now im trying to copy the whole thing onto a new hard drive that has been installed bu i keep getting a message on every file saying i dont have permission, i know i can go in indiviually and take ownership but there are hundreds of files,
Im trying to copy the my documents first but even when i take ownership of the file and click the tab saying including files within (or what ever it says) but it doesnt work i still cant copy anything
Hope that makes sense
cheers

Don't use Windows, but I think you do what you're doing now, but click on the folder containing the files, instead of the files themselves. The rights you assign to the folder will be inherited by all the files in the folder.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0

Follow this to the letter, you might just be ticking the wrong box, or not ticking the correct box.

If there is nothing wrong with the original disk, use disk imaging software to backup and restore the whole thing in one go.
What do you mean by died ? the hard disk is working, so why was it replaced, or do you mean base unit?!!
