Why not just ask them to do a BACS transfer? Or get a cheque?

Does she really want to go through the hassle of going to two banks multiple times to get cash?

Yes. She doesn't trust them to get anything right.

So surely one cheque for the whole sum is better than numerous trips there for £500 a time?

Only one opportunity for them to get it wrong rather than several.

We tend to find the cash machines work ok thanks. We can withdraw at somewhere reliable like Natwest, no need to even go into a Santander branch. The cash can then be deposited instantly into the new account at say Natwest, and credited the same day, as opposed to disappearing into the floating pot of millions/billions in between accounts for several days. Can be done when passing the new bank and all done under one roof.

Ah, I see what you mean.

I am surprised to see the words 'Natwest' and 'reliable' in the same sentence though ... they have a reputation for being anything but reliable!

I've had a Natwest account for 25 years! I've done changes on it (added ex wife then removed after divorce then added new partner, set up direct debits and standing orders, had my wages paid in for the whole 25 years) and only had ONE minor !!!! up in that time (a cheque debited twice) which was sorted quickly and efficiently. I speak as I find, but I am sure there will be those with horror stories about Natwest, and I am sure there are Santander customers who are very happy. Possibly it was just my partners branch that were incompetent.

  • Thieves and liars is potentially libellous stuff. I've had not problems with Santander. Sorry to hear that the OP has.

Bundling together a few of our mortgage banks before ****ing off back to Spain was always likely to lead to bad customer service, though.
woah there, are you suggesting when santander lose customers money and then refuse to reimburse them is poor customer service ? what about hitler's service to the jews in WW2, was that just poor customer service too ?!

Waste of space them lot. Shamtander definately leave a lot to be desired IMHO
  • nazi thieving scum. i pronounce 4th february as the start of official 'go and vandalise every local branch of santander with a hammer' until they go bust. never let a single pane of glass on any santander shopfront be free of hammer damage.

I think that's a bit over the mark. I hate Santander but to promote vandalism is not on. Post reported.

well, its february 1st 2011, and santander have given me their final word on what they are prepared to do after they paid out a standing order which i had cancelled over two weeks prior to them paying it out. 'ask the payer to pay you back' which incidently they wont. one of my favourite quotes from the guy at santander, and i kid you not, was 'well anyone can take money out of your account' - that is actually what he said. well, at least he was honest and for that i give him credit. my application is winging its way to the banking ombudsman as we speak, in the vain hope it might make any difference to this whole gratuitous shambles. oh, and for the iceing on the cake, they also completely broke the data protection act rules by giving out my personal details to peoples not entitled to it.
