Damp xmas prezzies

I am gutted. This year I have bought loads of stuff and lots of nice new decs to add to the old ones. Anyway, I go in attic today to find most of it wet where condensation has dripped from the cealing onto them. Now some smell old and musty and some gifts have had the packaging ruined so people are going to think they are getting second hand crap that has been in my attic for years when I only actually started buying about a month ago. It was fine up there over a week ago when I last went up. It seems to have occured since we have put our heating on permenantly following the recent cold spell. It happened last year and our landlady paid alot of money to get vents fitted and it stopped. She was assured it would be bone dry this year but it isn't. It seems to have started over the bathroom (extractor fan is fitted) and spread over the attic room which thenm drips down. I am gutted but I am consoling myself that it could have been worse and I might not have any gifts or decs left at all. Many of the gifts were extra presents that I bought friends of mine who had lost money to farepack and I wanted to help out! How much of sods law is that!!!! Just a rant really. I have just had to bleeding move everything down to store in my 6yr olds bedroom and he is going to have to sleep in our room until it is sorted, even then I don't really want to lug it all back up with xmas only 7 weeks away!:(

Wildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys. :heartpuls

Crap, I have just noticed that this is on the wrong board!!!! It isn't my day is it!. They aren't all ruined, just the packaging so I doubt it would be worth it with the excess but I may try anyway. How do i change boards?Wildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys. :heartpuls

Sorry to hear about your decorations:( I hope you find you can save some of it
The board guide will move the post over for you...0 -
Really sorry to hear this, condensation is abig problem
I find it best to have some windows on trickle vent if you have them. Open window if you have a shower/bath for a while. When cooking open kitchen window even if its only for trickle vent. Dont dry clothes on radiators. Keep hetaing on even when out just on a low setting. The warmer the house is the more water can be aborsbed into the air.0 -
We stopped drying the clothes on the radiator and got a tumble dryer. we also have extraction fans fitted in the kitchen and bathrooms. I am sure it something to do with the fact that just before we moved in (1 1/2 years ago) new double glazing was fitted. My landlady is going to put an extraction fan in the attic too. I need to find somewhere to store decs and prezzies for next year. I will have to get some sealable boxes to put in the garage because we have mice in there.Wildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys. :heartpuls

at least your landlady tries to sort things out, ours doesn't.
we even get condensation inside the windows between the two bits of glass.
this place gets inspected every six months (ha ha) and the only things that get fixed are the ones I do myself.0 -
Thats terrible and not a happy thing to happen at all. I know It makes you giddy knowing you have a good head start and to find it all ruined must be gutting.
I had a similar thing happen to me a few years back, but it was old records and tapes that got damaged. If only I had the technology i do now to get the tapes onto CD...
Hope you manage to get some salvation out of the problem.0 -

Sorry to hear this. Is it just the packaging that has been wrecked or the goods? If it's just the packaging what about either explaining to the receiver (if old enough to understand
) or alternatively taking the goods out and putting them in a box/basket/crate etc like the hampers people have made up.
Re-storing them, is there a friend/relative with a spare room/bedroom/attic who could help out for a few weeks?0
