given by the comparison site in my case.

Signed up with BG about a year ago because the unit price quoted on the comparison site was a LOT cheaper than any other site. However when I got the actual details from BG the unit prices were a lot higher.
Phoned BG and they could not/would not comment on the prices given by the comparison site and insisted that the unit prices they sent would be the ones used for my account.
Used the 28 day cooling off period and canceled.

    Thanks everyone...
I think, If I understand the general feel of this thread then British Gas are still just as bad as ever, and I have made a mistake..!

Having had a few phone chats with them at my "own" expense now,
I can confirm that They really dont deserve ANY customers. (confusion, incompetence and lack of interest seem to be the norm.!)
I have decided to stay with my current supplier, even if they cost slightly more in theory.... I have had no problems, and at least I do KNOW THE COST !!!.
British Gas can not, will not, give me any straight answers to my questions. so how can I trust them to provide trouble free service..?

BRITISH GAS. if you are reading this...

SORT YOURSELVES OUT. you give the word British a bad taste..!

I changed from British Gas in March 2006 to N power who were cheaper and already supplying my electricity. By August I was still receiving bills from British Gas for my current supply yet I had been paying N power since March !?!?!?! I rang British gas yep an hour on the phone, they said they hadn't received the paper work from N Power, phoned N power they said they had sent it and would ring Bgas. Two months later it was the same, so I lost my temper and phoned both companies and said I just wanted to know who was supplying me. I hate to say it but the guy from British Gas seemed most helpful so I instructed him to take the gas back (which it turned out had never gone to npower in their eyes) and I would move my elec to them so both were with Bgas. He assured me this would be fine and done immediately.

Here I am in November and British Gas have been brilliant at taking the Electricity direct debit ( which is new business to them) but guess what..............THEY HAVN'T TAKEN A GASS DD SINCE AUGUST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am now in the situation where I am phoning British Gas every 2 weeks to ask them when they will be taking it as I am currently not paying anyone for my Gas supply - its unreal, one extreme to the other in 9 months !!!!!!!!!

  • Hello everyone. this is my first ever post (gotta get it of my chest)
I am in the middle of a change to british gas for both gas end electricity

My sympathies go out to you and your family. BG are possibly the biggest pile of proverbial s**t that I've ever had the pleasure in dealing with.

We were charged £75 for 3 days gas, and when we queried it, British gas passed it onto a debt collection agency.
    Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
    Que sera, sera. <3
  • I can't help thinking that the chaotic market in energy must have helped increase prices. All the money spent on administration when people change suppliers, sorting out the mess when billing has gone wrong and commission to sales reps must come from consumers at the end of the day.
