Evening all
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but what are the best and safest sites for downloading/sharing free music.
I used to use Limewire or Frostwire but not really sure if they (or any) are safe but want to continue having upto date stuff on my phone and mp3.
Thanks.

or use something like spotify £9.99 a month over 6 million songs and mobile support. (or free if you just want the music on you computer)
if you can't afford the music then I suggest you listen to the radio for free.0 -
Most law abiding forums will not allow discussing this topic for obvious reasons.
Some music groups which don't have record contracts might release music in an attempt to get their music known.
No file sharing p2p method is 100% safe to use unless the material is truly free to share.....which is fairly rare except for the reasons I have already stated. All methods are heavily policed by copyright protection groups so it's very risky to download anything which is copyrighted. There are methods around it but I won't discuss them on this forum.

Not sure why it's important to have music that's 'up to date'.
Just listen to what you like.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0 -
There are several perfectly legal services that provide "free to listen" or "free to download" access to a large library of artists. Two examples are Magnatune and Jamendo. The latter is showing as having more than a quarter of a million tracks available on my media player (Rythmbox) right now.
Most of the artists will be ones you've never heard of, but does that matter if you like what you hear? If you don't, just skip to the next track.0 -
Seeing as nobody else has said it yet, I will restore normality to the thread:

Andrea - none of them are safe. Anyone can upload whatever they like, copyrighted or not, and just because it's called KingsOfLeon.zip doesn't mean it's not the latest virus that's going to do all sorts of things to your computer. On that subject, hope you've got a good antivirus, and that it's up to date.
But on the subject of listening to music online for free, you've got the Spotify suggestion above, as well as last.fm and also, of course, myspace.com which will have stacks of music to listen to.
If you want to download music, well, you'll have to pay, unless the artist has released it for free (like Gorillaz did in Christmas Day). iTunes, Amazon, Play.com and plenty of others now let you buy music for under £1 per track.

spotify has already been mentioned - but I want to repeat, it's a great site, even the free version

If you're after free music that you can use on any device could I suggest a pair of roller skates and a visit to HMV? (perhaps get a friend to trip over the chasing security guards?

we7.com is another.
There really isn't any reason to use file sharing anymore.0
