Tax Credits Examination letter....

I have just received a letter from Tax Credits office requesting information to enable them to examine my Tax Credits award for 2010/2011. Asks for a number of documents from a list which includes 2 forms of ID, Council Tax bill, my daughters birth certificate as well as last 3 months bank statements.
I called the helpline number as I only claim Child Tax Credit but the letter and information leaflet look more like they refer to Working Tax Credit. I was told it was just a standard letter and not to worry as my claim had just been selected at random but to call back when the Compliance dept is open between 8.00-16.00 to advise them that I don't claim WTC and never have done, claim Income Support as I am a lone parent and not working and can send proof of my benefits.
Just wanted to see whether anyone else has received one of these requests.

The information you say is still relevant for Child Tax Credit only. In year claims cannot be carried out at random so this looks as if there is reason to think the claim is wrong and reasons for looking at it should not be given as stated here

Have just spoken to the Compliance department. Looks like when I last called to confirm my benefits (when I had their normal yearly review letter) they have put my benefits amount in as wage income!!
Still have to send the documents but he has corrected their records already.0
