Childcare reciepts for tax credits

I have not had reciepts all the time, do I need them for wftcredits? I changed childcare provider and have lost one receipt large summer holidays one.

Thanks Wendie.
I wished upon a star tonight that I would see you once more,
To hold you in my arms and tell you how much I love you,
To hear your voice, to kiss your cheek oh for just one more time,
But all I have are memories and a heart full of love and tears.

  • I've never been asked for receipts by the tax credits... not sure but maybe they contact the childcare provider to check or something? Do your payments go out by standing order or do you pay by cheque? If so you'll be able to prove how much you paid using those if they ask for them.

They don't usually ask for receipts, I suspect that they wold only ask for them in response to an investigation.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • We have never been asked for Childcare receipts. Do you pay by cheque? We do, so if we ever lost a receipt we could use the cheque as proof.
Also, I would think that the nursery / childminder would be able to give you a copy of the receipt if needed.

hi, i work in tax credits, and you dont need to keep your receipts we dont need them as proof, the tax office may well contact your child care provider, it is maybe an idea to advise your cc provider they may be contacted, by phone, to check if your kids are indeed looked after by them. but then they may not , just really depends on your circumstanses. just a bit of advice if you do make any changes at all contact the help line number, other wise overpayment could well occur. also when its time for the renewals next year just call the help line, the number of people who have sent them in and they have been lost or have not been received by the 31-08-2006 is mad, and they are all likely to receive overpayments.
