Na you'll be fine with just cleaning, you can get some wax treatments for a textile roof. but on an 07 mini you'll be fine just washing normally.0

Firstly I hope your "Soap" is car shampoo, not anything from the kitchen or bathroom!
If it is a vinal hood I would use black (presuming its back) boot polish on it that brings them up great and the water really beads.
For a fabric hood I would use http://www.autoglym.com/enGB/product-proddetail.asp?v06VQ=GG&Range=1
But only if you are the sort of person who finds this site interesting.

Don't use car washes or pressure wash the roof, everything from the best car shampoo down leaves a residue in the weave of the convertible "cloth". As above, get a hold of the Autoglym hood cleaner/maintenance pack and the hood will improve dramatically.0
