Pitching Roof Over Flat Roof Dormers

We have a 1950's built Chalet House that has two bedrooms facing the front which both have flat roofs. I really would like to have these pitched in order to a) get rid of the flat roofs and b) make the house look a lot more attractive. The problem is every roofer I have asked has either not wanted the job or asked for (in my opinion) too much money; probably because they don't really want the job.

Someone suggested getting a carpenter in to qoute (as building the frame for the roofs is going to be the most important and expensive part of the job, and then getting a roofer to qoute for the tiling.

Has anyone here had this done and if so how much did it cost?

Many thanks S

you need a builder not a roofer. a builder would do the whole job.
budget price? assuming a single roof, 10k/20k.
    Get some gorm.

I get the impression he is on about a couple of dormers having pitched roofs put on top. Don't think he wants the whole roof re tiling. If the above is the case and the jobs worth between 10 and 20 k I can start monday!

2 front bed dormer windows are only gonna be 2.5 deep by 4m wide max. Prob 1500 quid a dormer plus scaffold.
  • I don't need the whole roof done  just new frames built and tiles over the currently flat roof Dormers.

It isn't a necessary expense as such, and I suppose I could leave it as it is, but I figure these things are only going to get more and more expensive as time goes on.

I do intend to stay in this house (and the flat roofs at the front have bugged me since I moved in 5 years ago) plus any money in the bank now is generating next to nothing in interest. Also I would imagine it could increase the value of the house if I ever needed to sell as I think it would make the property look much more like a house (which it is) than a Chalet bungalow (which is what some agents try to call it!).
