Amazon/computer storing details of credit card etc

Another story of a 4 year old buying stuff online without parents knowledge.

OK, slight exaggeration, he is 14 and had my permission.

But it is possible.

I bought some stuff from Amazon before Christmas, all delivered and given as pressies.

Today my grandson asked if he could buy something from Amazon that one of his friends' had bought, so I told him to look it up and when he was ready, I would put in my details and credit card info.
Poor soul doesn't have internet access at home:(.

I left him to it and went to get my credit card from its secret hidy place.

When I came back he said, it is done we don't need your credit card, all your details were in the Amazon page:eek:.

So it would seem that unless you specifically log out from Amazon, clear the cache and history and your favorites link and wipe your computer clean, your credit card details and address are still shown when you go to an Amazon page.

At least he gave me the money for the thing he was buying.

It is scarey and also easy for me to do shopping because my details are there i just press go and then realise how much i have spent. But also congratulations on having a trustworthy grandson who asked first x x x

  • I would recommend that OP does not use the 'Do you wish me to store your password' facility and always log out of the shop. I note on my visit, it always asks for my password prioir to purchase.

Just as a check, make sure your anti virus and operating systems are always up to date

Actually, only the first step (logging out of Amazon) is required, provided you don't save the password on your computer and don't disclose it to anyone you don't trust with your card details.

you need to log in to see those details
so all you need to do is log out and make sure your password is secure and not saved

Surely you still have to insert the three digit security number from the back of the credit card before the payment will be accepted? And the verification?

I agree I've never had an issue with Amazon keeping my card details and I also have lots of other things registered with them as I have a selling account as well.

Much simpler for the OP to look at their own security and not leave people logged in while unattended if they do not understand how it works.

Not with "1-Click" you just press buy and it's done.

  • If I buy something from amazon after my order & payment I click on my account then go to payment/card details and click on change card details then delete them before I log out.
