Sold an item - 2 different names and addresses have appeared for the buyer

I sold an item on BIN on Friday night - it's an expensive item and hasn't been paid for yet, which is not a problem. The strange thing is that when the Ebay 'Sold item' mail arrived, it gave a name and address - but when I sent the invoice, a totally different name and address (even different sex!) was on the invoice. I know some people use a partner's PayPal account - but these were different names and addresses on the Ebay account. When I view the item page and look at 'View payment details' (even though not yet paid for) it says 'Post to' then gives the name and addy that appeared on the invoice - so where did the name and addy on the 'Item Sold' mail come from?

BTW, the Ebay ID on the e-mail has perfect f/b over a long period of time............

If you're confused, I'm pleased - it means it's not only me!! ;)

Just e-mail the buyer & ask for confirmation of the delivery address.
  • I often do this as a buyer, especially on large items.

Both my wife and myself are out at work all day, so to avoid having parcels delivered when we won't be there, I get them sent to my wife's work address, where there will always be somebody there to sign for them. For professional reasons, my wife uses her single surname rather than our married one for work. (I still use the home address for items which will fit through the letterbox, like CDs and books).

I have 429 positive feedback (100%), so am almost exactly in the same position as your buyer!

If they have paid by paypal you only have seller protection if the address you post to is their confirmed paypal address - if its an expensive item this might be a consideration.

    Thanks all, for your thoughts.:)

Flo - as I said in the original post, it hasn't been paid for yet. I would never post to an unconfirmed PayPal address - it was purely the mechanics of 2 different names and addresses appearing in connection with the Ebay account that puzzled me. :o

I bought an item this week for a retired lady that doesn't have a computer. After I paid, I emailed the seller asking if it was OK to post directly to her. I gave both my home and mobile numbers for him to contact me on if he was worried at all.

The guy phoned same day, and after I explained the situation he agreed to post to my friend no problems.

There could be many reasons why there are different addresses, but if I sold an item, I would want to know why the different address before posting.

I'm wondering if youv'e sold to me??? I have recently won an item on a buy it now for my godson and rather than have it sent to me to forward on to him, I have it sent direct to him at his address. I have done this for him a few times as it saves on double postage, was it a childrens video by any chance???? I have nearly 700 feedback 100% positive but If I were you I think I'd email the buyer for clarification, I know I wouldn't mind.

No - a good few quid more than that. No-one's asked me to post anywhere yet, they haven't paid; it's the difference between the name and address on the Ebay 'Item sold' e-mail and the name and address that came up when I sent the e-mail that's unusual.
