Does anyone know how widespread Maestro is accepted in France.
I am sending DD skiing next year, and would like her to use a prepaid debit card, but it would be pointless if MAestro and Switch aren't widely accepted.

Get a Nationwide visa debit card, and pay no charge when drawing cash abroad and visa goes every where .Top visa exchange rate. Flexi account
www.nationwide.co.uk also see Martin's article on spending abroad. To be happy you need to make someone happy.0 -
I should have mentioned it - DD is only 12yr old, so flex visa card is out of question.0

Thanks pennylane99,
Splash ( now 360money ) offer a card to any age, as do Quidity ( the Mirror newspaper group through the same).
All I'm worried about is that DD will be left with a fully charged card, but no way of using the cash.0 -

have a look at the terms and conditions for the card you are interested in...
on Quidity there is a section called "Redeeming Money"7.1 If you would like to terminate your Card and redeem any unused funds, you may do so as long as:
7.1.1 the Available Balance is greater than the Pounds Sterling equivalent of €10 (10 Euros); and
7.1.2 we believe you have not acted fraudulently; and
7.1.3 we are not prohibited from doing so by any applicable law, regulation, court order or instruction or guidance of a competent regulatory authority or agency.
7.2 You can obtain redemption of any unused funds by contacting Customer Services.
7.2.1 We will charge a redemption fee of £7.00 plus 2% of the Available Balance, or the total Available Balance if lower than the said redemption fee. The redemption amount can be redeemed by cheque or postal order.0 -
Maestro is accepted anywhere Mastercard is accepted as they use the same transaction network.
You might consider opening a Nationwide FlexAccount for yourself - opt for no overdraft and a cash card, and let your daughter take the cashcard with her when she goes. Then you can upgrade the account to the full debit card (and OD) for your own use when you go on holiday.0 -
id open up a nationwide account in your name put so much in there and let you DD use that, but yes maestro is switch, switch is uk only, from the amount of times ive been to europe and my maestro has been accepted everywhereNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20
