Strangely enough Will, I totally agree with you on this point and would NEVER tip in that case, or indeed, where they bring the debit card machine and point to the line marked gratuities.
I do, however, disagree with you on the McD front though - these are fast food outlets at which employees are paid to mechanically perform a function. They can NOT be compared, nor would they probably wish to be compared, with a 'restaurant' that you have chosen probably as much for its uniqueness as it's quality of food.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

well that would involve going out.... :rotfl: in the last 6 months we've been out for a meal once and yes we did tip 10% I think as the service and food were good.0

I factor the cost of the tip into the meal (along with transport, outfit, drinks etc) as far as possible, and if I can't afford it then I don't go. As someone above said, it's not the server's fault that I've been rubbish with my cash!
:rolleyes:0 -
I used to work in a bar diner when I was at uni and we relied on getting tips.
However, I remember this couple who used to show up every Sunday morning for their full English breakfast. They'd sit in the best seat, hogg all the newspapers, eat and drink everything that was on offer (endless cups of free tea) etc.... This went on for about a year and they NEVER ONCE LEFT A TIP!
Well.................one day my colleague had enough and decided to LICK THEIR TOAST before presenting it to them. YUCH!!!!
So I always leave a tip just in case.....

At my boarding school (no smart alec comments please

But still what she did was wrong as it was her job to serve that couple!!!

I've witnessed the chef's revenge on a couple of occasions, and it was extreme behaviour from the customer that incensed the afore mentioned chef. It is never something I would participate in as it is simply cruel, I once 'accidentally' dropped the plate as I was taking it to the table and was never asked again.Total Debt - £2320.48, was £4286.48

Oh for goodness sakes, Will, read what I wrote! I said that I factor everything (tips, transport, outfit, drinks) into the cost of going out - and if I can't afford it all then I don't go.0 -

yes and then maybe you should read what i wrote!
Say you costed going out to be £60 including a £5 tip but u only had £55 then from what you wrote your saying you wouldn't go out because u wudn't be able to afford the tip!
Which would be nuts!

I tip if I'm happy with the service. My OH and I eat out regularly partly because I work the majority of the time from home so start getting cabin fever if we don't get out or I forgot to stop working. OH is also away alot on tour, so it's our quality time together.
I don't feel guilty about eating out while I'm trying to clear my debt, because I'm not prepared to stop doing everything I enjoy - I would be very depressed very quickly and that wouldn't help me get on with work. i.e earning more money. We all need to treat ourselves once in a while, granted I am in the situation that it's just me and OH that we have to finance.Lightbulb moment June 06 Total Debt. £16665.06
