New Free Avast problems

I was prompted to install the new version of free avast this morning wish I had not done so it freezes just about everything tried a few times as per the avast forum (lots of others with the same faults) now dumped it (safe mode) and installed avira, no problems.
Possible conflict with zone alarm.

Zone Alarm is known to have issues so you'd maybe have done better removing that instead.

By chance I decided to give Avira another try the other day. It still gives the false positive that put me off it before but I managed to get it to ignore the file this time around - previously it just kept on !!!!!ing about it. I see it hasn't updated its definitions since the install. :(

    What was the version number?

The behavior shield has been causing some troubles lately, and they are working to try and solve the problems.

    What version was it?

The latest is 5.1.889 as of today.

  • I just got the latest version, the last one upset my acer laptop but this one has fixed it.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Yes, I remember reading a thread or two where the new build had problems with ACER machines, there was also trouble with some .net programs and IIRC Dell wireless cards. It was all down to new improvements in the behavior shield AFAIK but those problems should have been sorted with the newest build. If it isn't...

It is weird, I never have trouble with avast! (besides a couple of trivial GUI errors)...even when I think I do have a problem I am usually wrong...my latest mistake: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=69242.0 :rotfl:
