Paypal Refund - Temporary Hold?

I just got a refund from a seller on eBid for a payment through paypal. I got the email to say I had received the payment but it is not in my account. It was paid by instant bank transfer. It says that it is on temporary hold by paypal. Why is this? and how long will they keep it for? Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Could it be a phishing email?
Normally even amounts that are waiting to be cleared, like e-cheques, would show on the account.
  • Thanks for your reply. I don't think so, I was expecting the refund. It shows in the overview but not in the balance. It comes up in the overview as refunded but when I click details it says the temporary hold thing.

could it be a dispute with an appeal pending?
Other than that I don't know, someone else may be able to help.

It will be an echeque which takes about 10 days to clear.
  • Can you refund with an e-cheque? I do have a dispute pending, but it is one I opened as a buyer for Item Not Received. I think paypal are supposed to make a decision by tomorrow, so maybe I'll get the funds then.

If the person refunding doesn't have the funds in their paypal account it will go 'on hold' until the funds clear from the holders bank account into paypal.
  • Thanks very much.

They can be faster. I had a couple one took 4 days and one took 6 days.
