Saw this on the tele, last day tomorrow I think I'll stock up. As it's cheaper than good braising steak if I asked the butcher to cut me a big chunk, will it cook the same as braising steak ie nice and soft after slow cooking?AKA: PC

Don't think it's from the butcher, think it's pre-packed stuff?0

I just cooked one, rare, it was lovely and tender! The packs seem to be pre packaged, didn't see any on the counter. Don't see why it wouldn't cook like stewing steak, not sure it was cheaper though. HTH"Live each day as if it were your last and garden as though you will live forever"

Thatgay, old fruit, Morrison's have in-store butchers.
Steak does actually cook up nicely in a stew etc but it is so lean you need to add some fatty meat as well if you want it delish.
Who's thatgay???
I know Morrisons have in-store butchers.
Did you not actually read my full post?

I.e from the fridge! not the butcher0 -
Yes, I try to skim read your posts.
Understandable, perhaps.
But you are wrong once again. Morrison's are not buying in cheap packaged meat but cutting these steaks in-house.0 -

All the meat comes into store in giant slabs, the instore butchers chop it up and put it in the trays. I get all my meat from Morrisons and go every 6 weeks and spend about £100 on it. I never even look at the display stuff, I go straight to the counter as I like to specify what I want eg pork chops cut thin and braising steak and steak cut very thick. Last time the rump was on offer I got a big chunk from the counter to roast as a joint but I've never braised it before so was wondering if anyone had before.AKA: PC

I didn't say they were buying cheap packaged stuff.
If it is already in a pack it's pre packed. If you go direct to the butcher & get them to cut it & pack it that's not pre packed.
Also I rarely shop at Morrisons as they are too far away0 -
My joint came out fine. I've just checked the braising steak on mysupermarket and on Asda and Sain's it's just over a £1 more a Kg even on the multi buy, I like my braising steak very lean so think I'll just go for it.AKA: PC
