New Years in Sydney

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to travel to Sydney for five days or a week in December to see in the new Year in Sydney harbour, I have friends who are travelling round the world at the time and are booked in at a hostel.

I am a bit loathed to stay in a hostel as I don't like sharing rooms or bathrooms with strangers. I've excepted the fact that I will be paying around £1k for a flight, but really struggling to find decent cheap hotels in Sydney harbour area or somewhere with in walking distance.. I would be willing to pay upto £100 per night and not overly worried about breakfast, just own room and bathroom.

Do any of you know of any good sites or hotels where I can find something? I'm aware that hotels will get booked very quickly so want to find one ASAP.

Thanks everyone.

Steven

Most 'decent' hostels these days have private rooms as well as shared dorms, some even have en-suites - eg Sydney YHA - private double rooms with en suite for $108-$132 - share rooms (that you mates can stay in) $36-$44

Find out where your mates are staying and make some enquiries. I just don't think it'll work if at the end of the night, your mates disappear to their hostel while you say, night, I'm off to my posh hotel!

If you search around, a lot of the backpackers hostels these days are more akin to budget hotels (think travelodge type accommodation).

The other option is for you to club together and rent an apartment for the week, which should be easily do-able. If you were willing to pay £100 per night and your mates pay whatever they would have in a hostel you could easily afford it and you mates will think you are a legend!

Do it quick though, as I'd be surprised if most aren't getting booked up already. You also might and up paying more for your flight as well at that time of year, though you may get a cheap deal if you are willing to fly on say Christmas day or similar.

If you are adamant you want to stay seperately in a hotel then I can thoroughly reccommend Y on the park

It's cheap, clean, sylish and easy walking distance to Opera house/Bridge etc

Why would you go for only a week? By the time your body clock has caught up you'll be on your way home?

Nice idea NYE in Aus but I'd build something more around it, after £1k of flights the rest is only incremental.

We stayed in a lot of hostels in Oz. Always in a double room ensuite. Much friendlier than hotels. Sydney does get really busy for New Year's. When we were there, there were loads of people trying to find accomodation and struggling. Try Trip Advisor.
