Meter reading help
I moved into my first house at the start of December, the estate agent had done all the initial meter readings and then Southern Electric came a week or so later and did their own reading.
After contacting SE today to find out when we are going to be billed they have told me I owe £1777.73!! They have admitted this can't be right and something must have been inaccurate with the meter readings - What exactly can go wrong with your electric meter? Can it be faulty or just inaccurately read?
Surely there is no way they can charge me this. I am trying to be savvy with my electric, turning everything off and only using what I need.
I have been advised to take a reading today and another in 5 days to help calculate the amount of electric used over the month.
Stressed!

Hi
You need to ascertain the final and intial readings that the estae agency took and what SE have on their records. The Agent could have read a wrong meter or provided an incorrect final reading. You also need to find out what period the bill covers (dates).
Meters very rarely go wrong so it is highly unlikely there is a problem with the meter.0 -
Did you not read the meter when you moved in and opened your account with SSE?IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Do you have an old electric meter with dials like a clock on it. These are very often misread.0
