Help!!
 Hi
I moved into my current residence in May this year. I immediately took both gas and meter readings and got on the phone and gave my details to BG who supplying the gas and told them to start the process of switching my electricity to them as well.In August I got a letter from BG that the process had finally gone thru after many letters saying the prevous provider Npower had objected.
I then gave them the reading for the date the switch over was to begin. Meanwhile letters had been coming from Npower addressed to the occupier that a new account had been opened for me.Now I have received a bill addressed to the occupier and a threatening letter from Npower debt collectors saying I owed them £518.
I have called npower and given them the appropriate readings(May to August) but they want my name and details and they also say only BG can give them those readings.I have given these readings to BG to be passed to them but a couple of weeks have passed and Npower is still sending me threatening letters from their debt collectors.
Do I ignore the letters since it is addressed to The Occupier or give them my details which can affect my credit file? Please help me.
Will somebody please help me.
NB:he previous occupier did not pay both gas an electric bills but I have sorted the gas issue with BG.

You owe money to npower as you was supplied by them up to the change over date with bgas. The reason they blocked the transfer to bgas is because of debt. You should have called Npower when you moved in give them the read so that they set up an account for you then swapped over to bgas. Npower have every right to bill you up to the date of the transferFiliss0

I work for npower and agree that it's likely that they didn't allow the transfer due to existing debt on the account.
Bottom line is NEVER ignore a letter addressed to the Occupier if you ARE the Occupier; you're just as liable for them as if it had your name on it (even if you're not liable if you see what I mean). Ignoring it will never make the problem go away.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

hanks for your replies;right I may have erred by not giving npower my details .However that huge bill was being addressed to the previous owner and when I started returning them they came back addressed to the occupier. When the switch was done I phoned Npower and gave them the readings for the to generate a bill for me but they said only Bg can give them that info, besides they wanted to take my details. You can have God without religion!0

you will be responsible for the electricity for only the dates you have been in the property. If Npower have an account addressed to the occupier, it probably covers dates before you moved in as well.
Give npower your details, give them the date you moved in, give them the meter reading when you moved in. Ask them to set up a new account for you and to send you a bill for your amount of electricity. Tell them any previous debt from before you moved in needs addressing to the previous occupant wherever they have moved to, or the landord.
I don't understand why npower want your details from British Gas, the only information they may want to check is the change of supplier reading.
PS nothing on gas or electricity reaches your credit file, unless they take you to court for non-payment and you get a CCJ.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
Check with BG they have the readings for the date your changeover to them finally went through, if not give them to them and they will resend them to npower. As they said above from when you moved in to the date the changeover went through Npower will bill you so they need your details0
