Immersion Heater and electric (econ 7)...
hi all,
help required, I have a new build barratts apartment (2 bedroom 2 bathroom place) - its all electric. (approx 4 years old).
I have an immersion heater, which is set to be always on (has a switch for sink/bath) its set to sink as I only shower daily and wash dishes now an then). There's no timer etc so no idea how it all works, will this thing heat up overnight automatically?
also I have the econ 7 heaters as well, think they charge overnight or something, but I have no idea how to set the thing - the instructions are missing, had a place but I dont understand it... also the heaters have two dials, anyone have any links so I can understand all these dials?
I will have a look when I get in tonight...
asking because my quartlery bill (single person came to around 240 quid - nov to jan)... not a massive amount but would rather be spending less if possible.
thanks for any help

You should never have an Immersion Heater on constantly, it's not economical. Should be switched on 1/2hr before you need to use it.
The dials on the Night Storage are an 'Input' and 'Output'.
The input will be how much you want to heat up the heater i.e higher the number, hotter it will be and cost more. The output is the amount of heat you want to let out of the heater. So higher the output the more quickly it will give off heat, also will run out quicker.
The below link maybe useful

Many(most?) new properties with Economy 7 have their immersion heater wired so that it only comes on when the electricity switches to off-peak, in the same manner as the storage heaters.
OP should check, and if so leave it switched on.0 -
Thanks, I will speak to the neighbours or barretts to find out... hopefully it is the latter, as its a new build it should be (well I hope)0

The sink (usually called the boost) won't be wired to any E7 circuit. It's designed to allow a sinkful of water to be heated up any time of the day. e.g. if you've already used all the hot water in the tank.
Depending on the exact type of immersion heater, it could be that the bath side (which heats the whole tank) is not on E7 circuit either. That can only happen if it has it's own separate electrical feed. Some top entry, switchable dual circuit immersion heaters have only one feed."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
