Aside from the financial incentive for resigning and the potential more positive reference, would it make a huge difference to future employement if you resigned due to ill health or was sacked due to capability due to ill health?
I'm just thinking you could go back to see how they support you and if you cope then all good, and if not you just resign and you are in the same position as if you never tried it. I understand what you are saying about taking an extended break and improving your health that way though. Does your company do career breaks at all - perhaps you could take 3 months unpaid career break to do the biking etc? My worry would be that you have a lovely few months of after resigning and the anxiety of applying for jobs is too much.
Anyway, I have an idea of what you are going through so all the best making this tricky decision.0 -
It may/May not be useful, but last year I started a FTC job and fell ill 3 months in. I was off for 6 months and actually made the first move when my FTC was coming to an end as I knew in my heart that I could not go back there a) because I was still recovering and b) embarrasment.
I moved to a job that was not nessecarily what I wanted to do and have taken 9 months to get my confidence back up etc, I have now started to apply for roles like what I was doing before (possibly lower). Essentally, sometimes you have to take a step back to go forward. Your health is the main thing - nothing will improve if you don't get yourself better.
Good Luck with whatever decision you make.2022 Target - Reduce new mortgage balance after house move - Part 1 (Ported) Starting balance £39,982.12 currently £37,242.19 Part 2 Starting Balance £101,997.88 currently £96,197.38 (as at 19/04/2022)0 -
I wouldnt call that a compromise agreement. You are legally entitled to all of that anyway when you resign.0

Thanks again for all the replies. I'll see what figures HR come back with, and I'll try and get some advice re: compromise agreement.
Thanks again!0 -
A bit of an update.
I heard back from my works union rep, unfortunately her union official is now off for the next 3 months (and my union rep doesn't know who will be covering for the union official), so I've been advised to phone the union branch myself to arrange a union official...
Nothing like being passed from pillar to post! I could certainly do without this added stress!Quite tempting to just do a resignation letter and be done with it, however then I'd have to explain all that on any future job application.

It's a 5 minute call tomorrow, make sure you politely hold your ground whilst on the phone to the union and tbh I would ask for the Union reps boss as they should be covering and if you are lucky they will agree and you *should* get better advice as wellThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Just a little update.
I managed to get through to the union branch office, and I've been able to speak to a union official who will be willing to represent me. I'll now need to wait until I see what figures HR comes back with, and whether they are going to offer it as redundancy.
Ho, and indeed hum.
At least I should come out of this a stronger person!0 -

A little update. Had another meeting with HR + HR manager yesterday, they will now be offering between 10K to 11.5K depending on what they pay tax free. It would also be offered as a compromise agreement, and they will pay for me to get a solicitor to check the comp. agreement over. Sounds quite promising, at least I wouldn't need to resign, plus I'd get a reference, albeit the standard rank and dates of employment reference. Just need to wait on them getting the compromise agreement drawn up, then I'll get my solictitor to check it over. Hopefully a couple of weeks and it'll all be sorted out!0
