Fiat Punto 2002 Problem

I have recently purchased a Fiat Punto Sporting 2002. It has been running absolutely perfectly for the last week but yesterday after driving it on a 30 mile round trip, when I got back into the car to start it, I turned the key nothing happened!! The dashboard lights lit up and the key code light went off but the car did not even turn over, on a couple of occasions there was a clicking sound when I turned the key.

Any suggestions on what it could be? Thanks TKay

That sounds to me like a dead battery. Hopefully not caused by a dead alternator. Get a set of jump leads and try giving the battery a boost and seeing if it will start, then if it does, get the car to someone who can test the battery, and possibly the alternator for you.
    Skip dipper and proud....
  • as above about the battery

or the start is not engaging maybe its seized
  • as above about the battery

Agreed the battery hasnt got enough in to power the starter motor by the sounds of it. As the above post says try some jump leads if you need to start it but youll probably have to replace it anyway.

I know this thread started started over a ago and has been idle.
I'm considering buying a Punto as my first car and will like to know how you resolved this issue and what your experience with the Fiat Punto has been.
    I'm considering a 2002 or 2003 model.
    Thanks.

to be fair these are nearly 10 years old now
bodies are galvanised so rot is minimal
engines are the old fire engine if chosen wisely and if these have basic maintainance like a set of plugs every 60,000 miles and oil and filter every 8 thousand then they are basic reliable cars with less problems than most other small cars at 10 years old
in relation to sporting they do a sporting and an active sport
the sporting is 16 valve and a headache
the active sport is basic 8 valve but with the sporting trim, these are good cars and insurance is less than group 4
