Has anyone been at this time? Any tips? Will it be really busy and will everything be shut as it's a holiday? Any advice gratefully received.

Hi,
I havent been to Rome at Easter, but I have been to Lake Garda and it was lovely. Certainly in that area they celebrate Easter in a big way (I can't see them not celebrating in style in Rome with the the Pope around the corner in the Vatican!) Easter eve there were candle-lit processions and Easter morning there were Easter eggs on all the breakfast tables and everywhere you went you were wished "Happy Easter" - much like Christmas here. All the shops had Easter displays and yes, the shops were closed, but just for the day Easter Sunday.
Hopefully, someone will be able to tell you if Rome is similar- if it is i wouldn't hesitate!0 -
Easter Sunday Pope will be conducting the service at St Peters - people gather in the square to take part. Have been to a few of the sunday papal addresses (when the Pope does his speeach from the balcony) and worth going to see. If your visiting churches expect services to take place, Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel are closed 24 + 25 April. Coloseum/Forum will be open. Have a lovely time - its one of my favourite cities!!At least the fish fingers are still frozen, that's what I keep telling myself (Truly Madly Deeply)0
