Virgin CC Int rate hike

I had a £3k balance and then I took out a 0% £3k Balance transfer with Virgin in January last year when my standard rate for balance transfers was 1.59%pm. After reading about interest hikes on Martins money tips e-mail, after checking, I noticed they had changed my standard rate to 2.20%pm in June last year. I rang Virgin and they said they could do nothing. I am paying the minimum payment at the moment and just adding al little extra each month to try to get it down. I dont think I will be able to switch as I am only able to get part time/temp work at present but I have a good credit record, I have not tried though.

Any help please.
