Installing an External HDD as Internal

Recently I had a Western Digital 1 TB My Book Elite external HDD but the USB port got damaged.

Last night I decided to break it open and install it as an internal as I've all my photos on it and don't want to spend a fortune on data recovery experts.

I've got it powered up but need to get a SATA cable today so that the comp can read it.

I've been reading that with SATA it already works out primary and slave drives. Does anyone know of any other issues I might encounter?

Many thanks for any advice

I've done this in the past when I bricked one by trying to update the firmware. So long as it has power and a sata cable it will just work.

Just be careful of the boot order - you don't want the PC trying to boot from the salvaged drive in preference to it's own.
