Tesco goes into the car tyre trade

Tesco is moving into the car tyre trade - in a deal with a former shelf stacker.
Britain's biggest retailer is taking on the likes of Kwik Fit and Associated Tyre Specialists in an attempt to pocket yet more of our cash.
It is teaming up in a scheme with Blackcircles.com - a tyre specialist run by ex-Tesco worker Mike Welch.
From next month, motorists will be able to place orders on a Tesco Tyres website, then take their car to one of 1,200 affiliated garages to have them fitted.
As well as discounts of up to 40 per cent on their rubber, they will also get Clubcard loyalty points.

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...

If they're cheaper, I'm not seeing a problem - other than its yet another squeeze the 'big boys' will put on our local retailers.0 -
Hmm spend the first few months with good deals to get everyone thinking that Tesco is good value then slowly ramp up the costs assuming people will go back every time (cos you also get 1% back in clubcard pints - yay!)... That's what Tesco do right? Can't imagine tesco doing it any cheaper than blackcircles though, this is just about increasing customer base I guess.0

While it's nice to get the Tesco points, it is also worth noting that you can also buy from Blackcircles through the cashback sites.0

Dangerous game.... If these "affiliated garages" start doing a "crapfit" to drum up extra trade, Tesco could find it's reputation gets very blackened very quickly....“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

How long before we see people driving around on Tesco Value Tyres which are really rebranded Linglong Ditchfinders?0

I will still contnue to use Elite in Rainham or if I feel flush Costco for a set of Michelins, though I have noticed their prices creeping up and actually on one MIchelin tyre in my cars size they are actually £3 cheaper per tyre.
I don't have any problems with people saving money on ditchfinder tyres, after all I may need some good quality used spares for a car in the future, and the continued use of ditchfinders means there will be plenty available.
I am actually waiting for somebody to put ditchfinders on a Mondeo ST with leather Recaros, as I want a set for me car.0 -
How many more pies does Tesco need to put it's tacky fingers in to?0

Am I the only one who thinks it's nice Tesco is supporting one of its former employees?
Like them or loath them, they're very clever - continually broadening their market and appeal - and that's why they're one of Britain's most successful businesses.0 -
More competition the better imo.0
