Complain to the company you ordered the goods from. They may reconsider their choice of courier in future0

Ah, your courier was in a hurry, trying to make a decent living!
As you probably already know, hermes couriers are paid 45p per parcel, are so called self employed and use their own cars or vans and pay for fuel.
Say for example your courier has 60 parcels to deliver they have a chance of earning about £30 minus fuel, business insurance, tax and NI etc.Delivering 15 parcels per hour the days work would be completed in 4 hours, take longer than that and you are getting below the minimum wage.
It takes time for people to answer the door and takes time to get a signature, if one is not needed, why get one? Provided the item is not just left on the doorstep or in full view for all to see and a card is posted with the location of the parcel, the job is done.
Catalogue companies etc try to keep their delivery costs down by using hermes, hermes maximise their profits by paying the couriers as little as they can for each parcel delivered. This is not the couriers fault, it's down to the way that hermes choose to run their business.
By all means complain to the company you ordered your parcel from but they are just trying to save money so you can get your item for less!
At the end of the day, the delivery was successful and you did get your parcel! :j0 -
I've had my first experience with hermes this week and have to say I'm also not totally impressed. Firstly I missed a parcel on Monday. Got the card through the door. Phoned the number on it for the courier and as no answer left a voicemail. Once on Monday evening and once on Tuesday.
After no answer I checked on the tracking and could see it was out for delivery again on Tuesday, and again I was out at work. Googled the main number and phoned...pick 1 if you're calling about a parcel delivered from a retailer. So pressed 1. Got a recorded message about how they wouldn't discuss it then hung up. So I emailed and am still waiting on a response.
When I got home on Tuesday I got another card in the door and phoned the courier number. Different courier this time who was actually grand. He said I had 2 parcels, one of which needed a signature and one didn't. I said no one would be in the house til Friday afternoon and he is holding the signature parcel til then, and was able to leave the other one in the recycle box in the front garden on Wednesdaycarpe diem

Glad you have manged to sort out your delivery bratz81.
It's possible that the courier that tried to deliver your parcel has become ill or they have vehicle problems...hence no reply to the voicemail you left. His or her 'cover' courier has delivered the parcel later in the week in their absence.
I think hermes are one of the very few courier companies that allow direct telephone contact with the courier.
Parcelforce and TNT couriers don't hand their numbers out to customers.
As for the switchboard not dealing with delivery enquiries, they won't. Any contact regarding the progress of an order should be made with the company the item was purchased from, that is standard procedure.0 -
I'm not the only one they leave parcels in the bin for then
. I complained to Hermes and they didn't want to know, complained to Tesco books who they were delivering for and they refunded my order in full to apologise

I think the switchboard should deal with delivery enquiries, all other couriers do. If I can't get through to the courier and want to re-arrange delivery to a more convenient day or pick up from a depot then how else can I do this other than through the main number?
I can't phone H&M at this point and say, the courier won't call my back to re-arrange delivery make them.carpe diem

According to the terms and conditions on the H & M website ...you do need to contact them with any delivery problems. If you have a parcel which is undeliverable you will always receive a reminder. If a courier is unable to deliver a parcel after a few attempts, it will be sent back to us. We will then apply a charge of £9.90 to cover the costs we have incurred in connection with the undeliverable parcel.
Do you have any other questions? Customer Service can help you.
Call us on 0844 736 9000
Monday - Friday: 8am - 9pm
Saturday - Sunday: 9am - 5pm
Closed on Bank Holidays.
The courier is not obligated to provide phone calls or even to provide a phone number to call. They are self employed and would be paying for any phone call out of his or her pocket.0 -
My postie popped an Amazon parcel in my bin as it was too big for the letterbox, sadly I was away for a few days and by the time I got home, the bin had been emptied and along with it, my Amazon parcel! At least I managed to speak to Amazon who were very helpful and sent me a replacement.
At the end of the day, by doing this, the delivery person is only trying to help to save you trying to arrange a re-delivery (which as we all know is a pain!).
