    I keep going out for meals and then i feel silly paying a fortune for salad so i always have a filling meal. Silly me! I wish i had the energy to go to the gym it has taken me over two years to start walking for a couple of miles a day! Still i am a lot healthier than the people at work I suppose.d

    SWB and anyone else interested in losing weight ... I am the bearer of bad news ... wait for it ... DIETS DO NOT WORK (all you need to know is that Weightwatchers is owned by Heinz and one could start to get a little cynical)

    And do you know why .... (the audience gasps and shakes their heads) because most people who are over or under weight use food as a SUPPORT MECHANISM. They cope with the trials and tribulations of life and get through really awful situations and food helps them through.

    Imagine the scene, you find yourself wanting to shout at a <rude beligerant customer> but can't because
    - It is your job to smile and help them;
    - They will report you to the authorities;
    - Your job depends on them buying stuff;
    - You are an adult;
    - Actually them being awful says more about them than it does about your customer service skills so for the moment, they need your support;
    - etc, etc

    So how do you deal with the 'angry' emotion (or the happy, sad, scared emotion), do you do what I used to do and eat crisps and peanuts because of the crunch?
    And when your nearest and dearest is across the other side of the world and you need a pat on the shoulder, what do you do? ... do you let a minstrel dissolve on your tongue so that when the caramel breaks the chocolate ooses round your mouth, or do you eat the whole bag and only notice when you search for another and find there are none left?

    Maybe an interesting experiment would be to imagine if a friend decided that they would go on a restrictive diet, where they banned the foods that helped them through the day and then beat themselves up when they failed miserably.

    How would you support them ... THEN take yourself by the hand and pretend that you are that friend.

    Eat when you are hungry, put it on a plate, enjoy, stop when you are satisfied, move, eat exactly what will satisfy you and become interested in how the food feels in your tummy...

    Final point ... 'SCALES ARE FOR FISH!'. It is not helpful to base your whole mood / success / failure one a number that can change over the month ... why not start the day with a smile and a stretch and think how am I going to be kind to myself today :T

    RE-LURKING ...
