combi boiler steam

This is probably so daft but here goes...got a new combi boiler vaillant...gives off loads of steam which neighbour is complaining about as it seems to drift her way all the time. Is this normal or is there something wrong with installation. I have never had a combi boiler before so not sure if this is normal (please don't tell me I shouldn't have got a combi as it is done!) Thank you

My new vaillant also does the same, so pretty sure its normal. It seems to be worse when just switched on, or when the hot water is running. The temperature outside will be a factor also. I think your neighbour will just have to live with it. It wont be constant, and really they are only going to see it during the day.

Perfectly normal in this cold weather

Give your neighbour an umbrella :rotfl:

This is normal, however the flue should have been sited such that it doesn't cause a nuisance to you or others. This thread contains some good info about how the flue should be positioned.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. Ic , I read the link you sent with interest and worry..my flue is no where near 2.5 m from the boudary,,just over the fence, does this ean I am contravening building regs and if so is this going to be a problem if I move? My builder has said he will put up a windbreaker but perhaps this will not be sufficient, I have just had new kitchen etc and cannot move the boiler now! Eeek!

Gas regs are 600mm from flue to boundary if pointing at boundary, 300mm if horizontal to boundary.

All you need is to get a plume management kit fitted to direct the plume away.

As a very general guide, the more 'steam' you see, the more money you are saving, as your boiler is in condensing mode.

Ours does exactly the same especially in the cold weather. Whenever it is doing it when we return in the car I always comment that they have elected the Pope, which drives my OH mad, as I have said this for years!

It does it when the boiler on. It just that in the cost weather the water in the exhaust gasses condense and you can see the fumes.

Thank you so much for all replies..builder is going to fit a plume thing which will make me feel more comfortable with the disruption to neighbour...so all in all I feel happier!
