Carers Allowance

My hubby is claiming C/A he was getting £53.90. Ive just noticed over the last couple of weeks this has been reduced to £48.77 then it was reduced again to £43.64. We have not had any letters telling us this was going to be done. I do intend calling them about this but thought I would just ask if anyone has any idea as to why they would do this.

Also does anyone have the phone number or know where i can find the number of the office that deals with C/A.

there is probably a CA overpayment in wich they have deducted from your CA payment. but before they can actually take any money from you they have to inform you for you to query it then ask for it back, they have to follow precedure! and cant just take it back at the amount they want. they also have to establish whether it was a fault by them or by you or by another department give you time to appeal the decision to take the money also.

the number for CA will be on the award notice or on the DWP website under carers allowance.

Hi atrixblue Thank you for your reply.

I am not sure what you mean by an CA overpayment. I always though it was standarded payment of £53.90. Is this not the case.

the overpayment may of come when you had back dated money after being awrded DLA as they can go back to the date of DLA awarded.

they may have not notice untill doing a review of claims and noticed then then they should have informed you of the overpayment, give you time to respond to find out how you were overpaid, if you were overpaid because of clerical error on their part, or another departments failure or whether you had infact given wrong details in your application.

you need to call them, and investigate, do a little digging with them, and dont take you were over paid on XXXX date and we are now taking xx xx off you perweek as we have the right to do so.

    you need to know

    1. when

    2. how was it overpaid and their definitive reason.

    3.how much

    4. why no letter notifying. (they will say we sent you a letter) get proof ask them for it with the relavent dates on.

5 why no letter from the debt recovery team to inform of payment plan.

that is if its an overpayment.

you first port of call is CA to find out.

    Hi

Just thought I would update you on what happened when I called CA people. Turns out there was a System error and they have been taking money of for a crisis loan that we have never had. Took me four phone calls to sort this out had to phone CA people who told me why the payments where coming of and for what, then had to call social fund place who assured me there should be no payments coming of the money. Then had to call CA again to be told they would have to investigate and would not be able to find anything out till Monday. I was not happy about this so called the social fund people again who had this investigated and sorted within an hour. I have been assured this has been sorted out and all payments that we have made to the crisis loan will be paid back to us as soon as possible. Its a pity I didnt notice this sooner but hay ho sorted now xxx
