Hi,
I am not able to use my printer as the spooler service is not running, I cannot simply turn it on as it needs a file, have had a heap of help from someone before that explained what I needed to do but I couldn't manage it
They explained I needed the spoolsv file from the xp disk and to rename it as spoolv.exe, now when I have dragged it from the list to the desktop to rename it lets me change it to spoolv.exe but when you try it, it comes back as spoolv.exe.ex_ Any idea how to do this please? If you go into properties it says its an ex_ file and I think I need it to be exe???
Then once its renamed drag it to c:\windows\system32 to fix the problem but its just not working out and I need my printer
Any help great fully received and in plain easy english please:T
( I hope the above makes sense lol)

The file rename problem is because you have "hide extensions for known file types" turned on. Turn it off in Windows Explorer by clicking Tools > Folder Options > View and unticking the box.
Unfortunately, that won't solve your problem as the .ex_ is a compressed version of the file and needs to be expanded. You may also have an issue if the CD is a different Service Pack version than is installed on your PC.0 -

have you searched the c drive for the file?
If it's really not in c:\windows\system32, it will probably be in a servicepack files directory!!
