M1 Motorway, Service station 2 Hour Minimum Parking, or Fine ? - Will they fine ?
I was on one of the M1 Motorway service stations(I think Junction 11), where it says 2 hours minimum car stay on the carpark.
I saw this sign after i came back, and i aint too sure if i exceeded 2 hours.
If i did, do/can they check that cars are parked onthe Service station carpark for under 2 hours?
if so how do they check?
and If I exceeded 2 hours, what will happen?
(This was at nighttime, 2am)
Cheers

Ignore anything you get in the post with regards to this and they will give up.0

You will not get "fined" by anyone
You might get some threatening letters which can all be ignored.
No need to worry or panic.0 -
It'll be as valid as any other private parking prosecution, which is to say enjoy your free cat litter / hamster bedding.
See the FAQ in the Parking fines forum for more details.0 -
Im surprised that the highways agency have not had a go at them about their notices
they HA, keep putting signs up 'tiredness kills' etc, yet many people must be afraid to stop for a kip if they think they will get a fineIMOJACAR

At least one of the service station companies (I think it was Moto) has openly stated that they will not even attempt to give a ticket if they see you sleeping in the car or obviously broken down. It is just to stop commuters using the services as a free all-day car park and car-pooling into work.
While we're on the subject of Moto though, have you seen their road signs? Their signs for hotel etc. are while on blue which implies that you MUST use the hotel. Their exit sign is back on white with a red border which implies that exiting is prohibited.0 -
Wondered similar thing with regards to Newbury M4 services.
They have a sign up claiming cameras monitor your entry and exit times so when we had a meeting there we would just all shuffle out and go out round the roundabout and back in again.
Thing is those cameras cant monitor if your asleep in your car or having a meeting at the services.
Not sure if its policy but last couple of times we have been in all the plug sockets have been disconnected to ensure we cant use them for laptops.
Apparently this is to encourage all laptop users into the hotel where they can pay even more for overpriced car parking.
A website detaling best places to dump a car for the day, and facilities with free wifi listed by proximity to every motorway junction could be a moneyspinner for someone.0 -
Does the sign not say "Maximum" rather than "Minimum"0
