Not all tradesmen rip you off!

After all the usual issues with plumbers taking forever, not even fixing things, and charging the earth (had an emergency last year and ended up paying out over £300 for 2 hours that actually made the problem worse, not better!) So we all moan about tradesmen....
But at last we've found a local angel!
He was recommended to us when we had a leak (ran round to neighbour electrician who gave us someone's number). What a lovely man, does a great job, charges very fair money (too low even) and is always helpful.
He spent over an hour fixing a leaky toilet - charged £40 inc. small part.
Spent half an hour fiddling with our radiators, not really any fault, just needed bleeding and the thermostats whacking back into working - charged £15.
sorted out washing machine for not draining - blocked filter I knew, but the filter was jammed in and wouldn't come out - fee £10.
And as many cups of tea as he can drink!

Just get out of here gloating like that, I would have at least had the decency to charge him for the tea, but proffer a chocolate biscuit as well.0 -
Found most trademens are decent people, work hard and charge very good rates. Problem is as with most things in life there's a minority that spoil it and give them a bad reparation0

Just to say - when you find a good one - look after them!
Our mechanic is ace!
After the bad snow we had a 'clicking' noise on back brakes. Made appointment on Monday to have brakes looked at last Wednesday. Mechanic thought maybe a bit of dirt due to ice melt (had 16 inches of snow over 2 days locally!).
Tuesday a really awful noise developed. Rang and told mechanic that we thought we needed new back brakes.
Mechanic had to order, as type of car means parts difficult to get. Was told on ordering would be Thurs or possibly Friday for delivery.
In the meantime rang the 2 major brake/tyre companies. None had brakes in stock. Both quoted over £100, with 2 day delay to get parts, then qualified it with 'providing we dont find anything else wrong'. Decided that there wasnt a snowball in hells chance of them NOT finding anything else wrong!
Mechanic phoned Thurs afternoon to say parts had arrived.
Took the old shoes off, found loads of grit (from roads) inside, said nothing wrong at all with shoes, gave them a real good clean and refitted the old ones. Returned new ones to supplier.
Charged £20 but we gave him an extra tenner, coz no way would most people NOT have changed the brakes, and charged us an arm and a leg.
Originally he was recommended by my sister, Ive recommended him to all my friends, and will NEVER go to anyone else whiles hes still around!0 -

I loved the plumber who came out and fixed the leak through the ceiling!
It was a Saturday for a start, emergency call out fee I expected to be £200 at least. Anyway, went through the ceiling, replaced the part and stopped the water coming through... £90 inc the part and VAT. And didn't want payment right away. Was happy to wait for my dad to come back off holiday!I am a Mortgage Adviser
