This is the type of thing that would discriminate against someone with Asperger Syndrome. One would presume they are looking for some sort of combination between a socially desirable response, some level of creativity, and quick thinking.

I'd personally want to say "what a ridiculous question, why would you want to rebrand a brussel sprout?" but I would hazard a guess they will see this as answering a question with a question and infer you'd be likely to speak out against authority in the company, and it won't get you the job.

It's not a brussel sprout - it's a complete health boost in an easy bite. With more vitamin C in just one of these marvels than you find in a full orange, it contains an adult's daily requirement of Vitamin B and Folic Acid. Particularly plentiful in winter when the body's energy reserves are at a low, Belgian boosts are a cheap and easy way to build up your energy reserves and immune system. Keep healthy, eat more Belgian Health Boosts.....

I would think this question is being asked to judge competence for a sales role - looking at how the features of a product can be communicated in terms of customer needs. This kind of question will throw a lot of people so by coming up with any answer you're likely to beat some of the competition. You could be as off the wall as you like, just think in terms of features, ask yourself "so what" and then push the benefits.

PS - not suggesting my answer is any good - just off the top of my head!
  • Rebrand a brussell sprout ? Am i missing something here ? *confused*

What a load of old codswallop. This would totally put me off the company. Though realise in these hard times one can not be too picky.

    I hate this management-spiel gobbledegook.

I worked in a call centre for a few weeks and couldn't hack it. I do challenge authority so knew it wasn't for me. Being told you couldn't take your 15 minutes break in one go but to break it up into short breaks really p'd me off. Also you had to include toilet visits in that too.

A sprout is a sprout. And b****y lovely they are too.

Take a dump in the office and see how quickly they let you have toilet breaks excluded from it (or sack you and have a satisfying story to tell).

Admiral Insurance are named as one of the best companies to work for in the UK - and to achieve that's quite a gruelling process where most of the results are based on staff surveys. They have higher employee retention than most call centres, pay rates are higher than for similar roles in the area, and there is good prospects of promotion and other roles.

Must be doing something right! (I don't work for Admiral, just have an interest in good employment practices)

Brussels Sprouts: Because it's good to let rip.

    That's an Aspie's response.

Superb! Possibly the best reply ever on MSE!

I hate these ridiculous scenario based interview questions. What next? Balancing biscuits on your nose? One handed juggling?

It's a test to see if you have sales skills, cazziebo's post is a very example of what they want.

A lot of companies will pick up a pen and ask you to sell them the pen.

I'm good at sales, friends sometimes ask how to deal with this if it comes up in an interview, if their not great at sales I tell them to imagine they are a QVC presenter and they were selling the Pen / Brussell Sprout. They will highlight the most obscure potential benefit of owning the pen / brussell sprout so it's quite a good way of them handling the question.
