In this day and age with ANPR cameras and modern printing techniques it should be perfectly feasible to have car tax from a particular day and not a particular month.

    .

Agreed. 100% ..of course that would not be in their interest to do that.

That would the norm, would it not? Its very unlikely any dealership will have taxed used cars on their forecourt?

Or do you know something about motor trading i've been missing all these years?

agreed, but my point is why when doing the deal did he/she not get the dealer to tax it in the agreed price,

you might have been missing getting 6 months free tax for all these years:rotfl:

If you post it on the last day 2nd class and drive it tothe dealer the 1st of the month(or get them to collect it) then any ANPR check will still be OK unless they store them for a few days to see if there have been refunds.

What about a last test drive overnight on the dealer trade plates just requires you to return them the following morning.(pick the car up at closing time)

BTW I have seen quite a few cars with valid TAX discs over the last few months looking at second hand I think some dealers use them as personal cars till the tax runs out.

A good trick is to look up the car on DVLA it will tell you when the tax ran out so is a potential guide to how long the car has been in the trade.

I don't know in this case but when you Part ex usually the agreement is that the dealer has your tax disc and the car is valued accordingly... but as I said - I don't know what you have agreed.
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

It's a good suggestion, but doesn't protect me from an eagle-eyed traffic officer. "Failing to display a current tax disc ........"

To those who keep harping on about whether or not a tax disc is included in the P/X deal, no it is not. My trade-in offer is not dependent on residual VED and the replacement vehicle sale price doesn't include a tax disc. Yet! It's my next bargaining point to close the deal. Then mats. Then extended warranty. then ....well, anything I can get, really!
