First bill from Ebico, but still being chased by BG!

I received my first bill from Ebico today, which is absolutely fine and is based on the correct reading on changeover. However, I still haven't received confirmation from BG that they now accept the meter reading on changeover in July and that my account with them is nil. They are still sending me threatening letters saying I owe them money, which I definitely do not.

If I go ahead and pay the Ebico bill are BG still going to terrorize me with threats of court etc?

Is it worth writing to BG again, or perhaps contacting Energywatch?

  • You'll have to pay the EBICO bill but that won't stop BG chasing you for payment. Ask BG for a statement to support the demand for payment. If you don't get satisfaction contact Energywatch, that's what they're there for.

  • How strange. I also switched from BG to Ebico but had no problems.

Ebico should have given your last meter reading to BG before taking over (and that should have generated your last BG bill).

Yes I have never got to the bottom of exactly what went wrong. I phoned my meter reading in to the automated line with Southern on the changeover date, but for some reason that was not the reading that BG used - I don't know who is to blame! But I have put them right on numerous occasions as to what the actual reading should have been, even had a final correct bill from BG which I paid the same day - albeit that I demanded this final bill reflecting the correct reading!!

Ebico have sent the correct reading to BG on three occasions now, but I still keep getting the threatening letters. I refuse to pay BG for gas that I did not use. In fact I only reached the reading they want to use a few weeks ago and I changed suppliers on 19th July, so they can get lost.

  • Sounds like BG messed up, surprise surprise!

The final reading BG wants to use, is it estimated, customer own reading or is it the one supposedly given to them by Ebico? My final bill with them said that they used the one given to them by Ebico, but it didn't say what it was. Now I wish I had asked, they may have robbed me off as well.

What a pain, best of luck!
  • Bgas are getting on my nerves doing this all the time. I was on the call centre friday and i have had loads of call about it. The read gets sent to them but they never use it. Then you tell the customer that they know nothing about the transfer. Of course they know as they have to agree to it. They are just really slow updating there accounts. Pill the bill to Ebico aslo ask them to send a stop billing request to Bgas.

PowerGen tried the same trick when I switched to Ebico. They came up with a made up final bill that was too high. Entirely PowerGens fault, and I told them so. They rebilled me with the correct readings two months later, that ended the problem.
