JSA - Sanctioned

After making the usual visit to the JobCenter today, I was informed that I have been Sanctioned and my JSA would be cancelled for 4weeks. This is due to not applying for a job that I said I would at the start of the signing on process.

Now, I fully understand why they have stopped payment (Although appealing as reasons to why not). But, Without JSA I literally will have £0 coming my way over the next 4weeks (Instead of £260). Is there any way of getting further assistance or help?..............Or has my own stupidity cost me dear??

You can apply for hardship payments, these are discretionary and worth about £33 a week if you're over 25, you ask at the job centre and they will be able to process this for you. You'll still be able to claim housing benefits and council tax benefits if you were entitled to these before.

You've been lucky, I once got a 6 month ban for the same thing, and it was upheld at appeal.
Luckily I had planned ahead for such events and had a few k in cash in my safe that only I knew about.
Would have been tough otherwise ;)
  • I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, be sure to appeal and re-appeal if you can if you're still refused.
Have you made arrangements to claim for the Hardship Allowance? if not, then please do so as soon as possible.

    Best of luck :)

Unless you are in a vulnerable group, hardship allowance will not be paid for the first two weeks of your sanction.
    Gone ... or have I?

And since the recent changes to Direction 17 you also can no longer claim a crisis loan if the reason for your crisis is due to a sanction or disallowance.

Unless you are in a vulernable group that is - but then you'd get hardship straight away anyway.
