Nissan Micra 54 reg - wont start or turn over

My car wont start at all, its completely silent when I turn the key, the usual lights come on on the dashboard, most of them staying on. Called the AA yesterday as we have homestart, he said that the problem was the key was not communicating with the car anymore (we have 2 keys and both were checked), so needed…

yes, the discs do need doing, nissan have quoted me 180 for new discs (im assuming this includes pads), kwik fit would do it for 120 because the pads are free, so either way, its better for me to do it with them. if i didnt need the discs, i wouldnt go to them as i know they will only do both at the same time
