Just been accepted for Lloyds Credit Card WITHOUT preapproval

Just a quick one for those on here who bank with Lloyds and are not getting a credit card pre approval on online banking and are put off from applying online.
I have banked with Lloyds for 1 year and have a £1000 overdraft which was renewed on its review last week.
Based on that, and the fact I have not incurred any charges and fund the account with my salary each month I decided to apply for a credit card. I never have any offers other than car insurance in my online offers section, and I am never offered anything when I go into branch other than upgraded accounts.
Applied online yesterday and this afternoon my new credit card with limit of £2000 is showing on my online banking.
I checked my credit files and no search is showing from Lloyds on Experian, Equifax or CallCredit, so the decision was seemingly based internally.
So, just a quick message to all those who want a LLoyds card and are afraid of being declined because it has not been preapproved (and there have been messages of that type on here over the last year), do not be put off by applying online yourself.

Hi Paul,
a couple of questions:
1. Do you know whether the reason for your not being offered a credit card had been that you had the Credit Policy Decline marker, or just the normal internal credit score?
2. Were the account upgrades offered to you on the internet banking site, or on the phone/in the branch?
I opened the account in August 2009, and have the Credit Policy Decline marker sitting on it since opening.
I have never been offered anything (except for home insurance for a couple of weeks in December) and the only reason the Phonebank operator could tell was that CPD marker.0 -
I have never really wanted a card, so I didnt care too much that nothing was showing as approved in my offers section of online banking. I did ask last summer why I hadn't been pre approved for anything, and the advisor just said there was nothing showing for me at the moment but there was nothing on my account to suggest why. I would imagine I have not been CPD marked as although I have never been offered anything, I have never been declined anything either.
I applied for an OD and was accepted, and I applied for a CC and was accepted.
The account upgrades have been showing in my online banking since about 3 months after opening my classic account and since then I have upgraded to Silver and Gold through online banking. I have the option to upgrade to Platinum and Premier and get these offers regularly online and over the phone when I call.
The point of my post was I never got sold a credit card in branch, or over the phone. No card has ever been shown as approved however I was successful upon self application. There are a lot of people on here who are waiting for the card to appear and assume that Lloyds will auto decline them if it does not show as pre approved or that they must be CPD if not.
Unfortunately I can not explain why I was not pre approved when I was clearly eligible for a card - that's just how it goes!0 -

Well, in case you were able to upgrade via online banking, then you must not have had the CPD marker, as that is the only thing which in my case can prevent being able to upgrade online or do get anything (I have an internal rating of 1, sufficient salary, no credit cards).
My post was really to highlight that just because you are not shown anything, it is not sure that you will not be declined because of the CPD, but I believe we can reliably put together the two posts to say:
1. If you are able to upgrade online, then you cannot have the CPD.
2. If you haven't been able to upgrade online for more than 4-6 months and you haven't applied for anything anywhere either, then it is very likely that you have the CPD (or you have Premier).
If you do not have the CPD (because e.g. you are able to upgrade online), then you have a chance of being approved for credit card, even if it is not offered (not good enough internal score or available credit to income ratio too great for preapproval).0 -
Nice job with the CC approval Paul.
My recommendation for anyone unsure as to their status with Lloyds is to book an appointment with a Personal Banker at Branch.
During your meeting ask directly what your Risk Rating is and if there are any pre-approved offers available to you. Usually Branch will be able to see whether you qualify for upgrades including extensions to credit limits etc too.
That's the best option or you could try Phone Banking and ask to be put through to PLD - Personal Lending Department. They will stringently review your account but will give you a direct response.
It would be nice to hear from staff who work for Lloyds though for their take on this too.

You can do most of that yourself if you have Lloyds online. Also if you are applying for a loan it is far better to go into your account online and normally agreed straight away. If you go into a branch they were want to know all your outgoing and incomings.
Also if you have any pre approved offers it will show.
I do everything online with Lloyds.0 -

RB Do the online offers show clearly in the 'apply online' section? I must admit I've never tried applying for anything that way.0 -

They dont..Can I find out my credit score? You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)0
