Free Anti-Spam programs

I'm desperate for a good, free and easy to use anti-spam program.
I'm getting in excess of 150 a day from those sicko's who have nothing better to do than waste all our time with it
Can anyone recommend a good reliable one?
Thanks

Coffee Cup Spam Blocker, nowt else comes close http://www.snapfiles.com/get/ccspamfilter.html
  • I've noticed an incredible upsurge in the amount of spam I've been getting in the last 2 weeks or so. Unless the ball and chain has been using her email address to sign up on unscrupulous websites, I'd say the spamsters have recently upped the stakes generally. My spam has jumped from an average of maybe 50 a day to well over 200 and rising.

After looking at the SnapFiles link in the post above and reading the site's own reviews, I decided to give SpamBayes a go as my old Spam Inspector program was simply unable to intelligently cope with the spam without me setting a rule for virtually every email which arrived.

I'll test it for a few weeks and report back on it's effectiveness. :)
  • yeah have to say noticed a lot more spam emails recently and it really riles me

Just remember when creating a email addy use numbers and letters or a underscore or something that isnt so obvious for email crawlers to pick up on, the easiest target is first and last name.

I'm trying to decide between Mailwasher and Coffeecup

I notice Mailwasher isnt a full version and is free but with limitations.
The paid for version sounds interesting and costs around £20

As for Cofeecup. I know I tried it quite siome time back and didnt stay with it. I cant remember why.
I believe that Coffee cup no longer support it but its still available from some affiliate sites
I just installed it and found its picked up my settings from last time (must be a year ago) but so far its failed to pick up any emails from my accounts.

Therefore I am still seeking advice from anyone who has made the experience with one or both of these

Have you checked to see if your ISP offers spam filtering? Much easier to let them do it if possible.

Try Popfile - you need give it time to find the patterns in your e-mail for what is spam or not, but then it is smarter than a static keyword based filter.

Because of spam I now opperate my Yahoo account without a bulk file option. Some spam still gets in but its back to less than one a day which I then identify as spam and the adress is blocked. I have not missed ny bulk file at all.

With coffee cup you will have to input your server settings manually, and enter the email addresses where its coming from and also create a few new keywords, once thats done it works really well, how all of this works with a web based mail service like Yahoo or Gmail I have no idea but in saying that I cant see why it wouldnt work.

Who is your email provider? (just incase I missed that bit)

I dont think my provider info will ring any bells
Its a lesser known provider who hosts my website. Its called haisoft
my email address without giving anything away is anything@mydomain.co.uk

    Thanks for the info

I'm just a little dubious about the coffeecup one because they no longer support it and its not on their list of software anymore (coffeecup.com). If you click on help from within the program it comes back as unknown.
I cant help asking the question why did they drop it and not even replace it with another anti sopam program?

Because of that I'm still looking
