Nissan New Note Recall- Dec 2010
Just before Xmas my new Nissan Note was recalled (less than 3 weeks old) with some kind of brake fluid contamination problem. We were told not to drive it at all and were given a hire car. Apparently lots of cars were being recalled with this , but I can't find any details..
We've heard nothing from Nissan ( they came and got the car and it's with the dealer) and the dealer has no information of what has to be done etc. Does anyone know anything about this recall? Given that the car was so new can I get another one?

The only recall listed for Micras and Notes were a ignition relay problem in October last year. Sometimes manufacturers will recall selected vehicles and not have a full recall.
They've done all the legwork, provided a loan car, and are fixing the problem so I fail to see why you feel you should be entitled to a replacement? The man without a signature.0 -
Thanks for the info on the recalls
True they have provided a hire car but the hire car has clauses on it like no pets - I have two dogs - there's an issue here I think.
Also I'm not really happy with a car that I'm paying off having a major problem that Nissan 'are yet to identify ' sitting on a dealers forecourt indefinitely. The dealers who are to fix the car don't know how - and if this is an indication of the level of communication between Nissan and the dealers then I think the odds are stacked against the dealer being able to do a decent job - I'm not that confident this won't spell the start of heartache...
Also the way in which the paperwork for the hire car was handled leads me to believe that the insurance may not be wholly thought through ..along the lines of 'oh yeah your partner needs to drive that - i'll just scribble that over the form...'
Why do I want a new car....because I paid for it?0 -
VOSA's website has this one listed as contamination of brake fluid with mineral oil which requires the brake system to be flushed and replaced with new brake fluid.
Bit concerned myself as we got our vehicle about the same time and have noticed some slight issues, car doesn't seem to handle as well as our old vehicle which was a 57 plate Nissan Note. Main problem we've noticed is when rapidly accelerating to overtake something vehicle steering seems to go a bit off as if the passenger wheel is slightly braking whilst driver wheel isn't, and suspension feels a lot more bouncy than in the old vehicle (you can really feel every pot hole!).
We moved house at the time of the recall and I'm wondering whether they sent our recall notice to the wrong address, we have updated our details now but might give Nissan a call just to check.
Could also be that we moved from Warrington to Ludlow and in Warrington I was used to driving all the time on motorways, where as in Ludlow there is a severe absence of any motorway style road (even the major A road (A49) is a bit dodgy!)0 -
They've identified a bad batch of brake fluid, they have full trace-ability through what must be a very costly quality system and have identified exactly which cars are affect........
Now you want a new car? Do you really think they should give everyone new cars instead of replacing £15 worth of brake fluid?
Actually why don't you try suing them for millions?
Just drive down the motorway, call 999 on the mobile and scream that your car won't stop because the dodgy brake fluid has jammed the throttle on, jammed the gear leaver, jammed the clutch, changed the radio station to Kerrang Radio, turned the aircon onto cold (which is giving you a stiff neck), caused the washer jets to spray ignited petrol instead of water and welded the ignition switch in the on position......
It takes no time at all to change brake fluid in a car, any monkey can do it with the right tools.
The dealership will delay because they want to know who's going to pay for it AND want to make sure they will get their costs returned from the manufacturer.......“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If the brake fluid has been contaminated with mineral oil as suggested, that could mean replacement of all seals in the system as well as changing the fluid. Mineral oil swells seals and turns them into sticky goo. Could be quite a big job requiring a well trained 'monkey'.0 -
^^ Brake fluid is a far more aggressive chemical than mineral oil, the system should be able to handle it with no issues. You can even buy mineral oil brake fluid..... The risk I dare say of this "quality spill" would be a lowering of the boiling temperature of the fluid, which could eventually lead to a spongy feel under braking.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

You can indeed buy mineral oil fluid, for systems intended to use it with seals made from the correct material.
For oil contamination of other systems, please see http://www.herguth.com/capabilities/brakeswell.htm
where a reputable laboratory discovered that seal damage can occur within hours.
I fear your comments are dangerous and may lead people to underestimate the hazards of oil contamination of brake fluid.0 -
Sorry to dig up an old post but do you have any details of what years were affected by this? We were looking at buying an 8 month old one which would age it about this same as this but I can't see any info on the paperwork if its had a recall done. Tried the local dealer but they were not really helpful. Had a look on the Nissan Note Forum but not a lot there.
