Hi all,
This morning i was doing some research and i clicked on a website.(cant remember what one)
A pop up suddenly appeared saying AV8 had detected viruses, did i want to run it. It started to do something (checking i think) but i immediately clicked out of it and shut down my computer.
I then in safe mode ran malwarebytes full scan which found nothing and also ran my avast anti virus which too detected nothing.
I havent had any problems since the initial pop up and i haven't had any pop ups since. I have read on the internet since that AV8 is in fact one of these fake sites which tell you you have all sorts of viruses etc and try to get you to pay to install their programme. It also stops people from doing cetain things as it just keeps popping up telling them there is a problem.
Do you think by shutting down my computer immediately i have stopped it from installing somewhere? do you think my computer is safe to use.

So what should i do. My computer seems fine at the moment. Is it really a case of sit back and wait and see.
I don't know what else i should do, i'm even scared to check my online banking etc just incase there is something on here.0 -
when OH had this we tracked it down to a couple of toolbars she had, Foxit(ask) and Ask. Deleted both and have not had it again.(so far)I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I have experienced a site like this before, out of curiosity I loaded the site in a linux VM, and there was my "windows" counting up infections...it then told me to doenload their program to remove it which turned out to be a rogue...
If you can remember, the site would be helpful. (though be careful not to post an active link --> use hxxp or break it up)
If not maybe how you got to it?
This is what the webshield/network shield in avast is for...-Scott-

I'm sorry can't remember the site. I do know at the time i was on google and i was looking at backaches and dizziness as my mum has been suffering for the past week or so.
It was a site i clicked on from the search results. Defaintely going to be much more careful in future.0 -
