I've come across this numerous times, it seems to be becoming more common, all my vans (Mercedes Vito's) are two years old or under and I don't see an issue with a single vehicle being parked on your own drive. I would understand if they made provisions to stop fleets of vans being parked etc.....

Whats to stop a motor trader moving into one of these properties and parking 10 cars in the road, quite legitimately?

Also if Wimpey built garages to fit modern vehicles instead of Model T Fords, anyone with a van could live there and park the van in the garage and everyone would be happy.

It all seems like a shortsighted attempt at Margot Leadbetter middle class decency (showing my age now)

We had someone near us parking his van at home and there was a covenent in there not allowing it. Someone contacted Bovis and they enforced it. The chap moved house within 6 months.

It appears it is more likely to be enforced whilst houses are still being built. As time goes on and the development is complete, it is less likely the builder would be interested in enforcing it.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. • Luckily for us our house is one of the last ones being finished off on the development.

I hate the thought of someone ringing up and moaning about you. I think the worst thing is, not knowing who it is. If it was me, I really do not think it would bother me. Its like I said our garage is at the back of our house in a block so the van will not even be visible from the road, or to any of the houses from the front. I think that as long as we park it around the back in our parking space in front of the garage, and that we are not obstructing anybody I really do not see what harm it will do.

Thank you again for all your replies.

Maybe I should get my Husband to change jobs and become the local ice-cream man. Now that would give the neighbours something to moan about :rotfl:
  • Totally agree with you Nelly - I HATE SNOBBERY! If I lived in such an area i'd be tempted to buy the most shocking, garish old banger of a motor and leave it on the drive. I wish people would stop nosing into what other people are doing and concentrate on their own lives. The type who complain about these things are always anonymous - they don't have the bottle to admit they have a problem with something and state their argument fairly and without resorting to 'grassing people up'. They should stop curtain-twitching and get a life!
  • our deeds say 'must not keep pigs in the kitchen' so I'm saying no more!
