No two cards on my current account at Abbey anymore

I have read a previous thread stating that you could have a debit card and an Electron card on the came current account.
I bank with Abbey and I always had a Visa Electron and a Debit Card on my account. I am using my debit card mainly but it was a security for me to think that if there was any problem with my Dcard, I could still use my Electron card to withdraw money.
Well, that has changed as Abbey decided to cancel my Visa Electron earlier this year, for security purposes, they said.
I wonder if it's because I have never used the Electron card since I got a Debit card, as I don't see how I would jeopardise the security of my bank account, my electron card was left at home, until the day I would have to use it?

They have withdrawn my daughter's electron card as well as there is no need to have both on the account (according to abbey).0

Well, as you said, it is according to Abbey. Now if something goes wrong with your debit card and the card has to be cancelled, you will have to wait days until you can draw some money again, I didn't see any problems by having those two cards on one account.0

And if she lost both cards this would present two opportunities for thieves to attempt to withdraw from her account.0

My daughter doesn't have a problem with them withdrawing the electron card as she didn't want it anyway. She had to battle to get the debit card so is happy to only have that and as you say it is one less card to worry about.
The only problem was they stopped the card without linking her debit card to the same accounts so this caused her difficulties but they did sort it out once she realised what they had done.0
