Renewing 16-25 Railcard

My 26th birthday is coming up. My railcard expired in December. I have waited to renew as I had no trips coming up and knew that if I wait until the last possible moment (i.e. day before my 26th birthday) I'd get longer out of my card.
If I renew online will the card be dated from the date I renew, or the date my last card expired? Am I better off buying one under a different email address & not mentioning renewal at all?
