OIL FILLED RADIATORS vs GAS CENTRAL HEATING
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if Delonghi Oil filled Radiators (2kw output) are more cost effective than using our Gas Central Heating (It is the Hot Air Blowing through the Vent Type) ?
We have 5 of these Radiators ( 3 bedrooms, Living room and kitchen )
Is the amount of electricity consumed by these radiators determined by the temperature settings on the radiator ?
Thanks for your help

They are very expensive to run, and yes the higher the setting the more leccy it will use as its 'on' for longer to get hotter. Some of them have different heat settings and a dial to fine tune for that setting; ie 1000W, 1500W, 2000W.
2000W will heat it up quicker but will use more leccy. 1000W will heat it up slower but will use power for longer to achieve that temperature if at all.
Your gas heating even hot air should be a LOT cheaper to run than electric heaters. If you have 5 of these heaters and they are on at the same time on highest settings thats 10KW/hr so if they were on for one hour at the same time for the full hour it would be 10 x your unit rate, say 8p then thats 80p per hour. By they way they work though, it goes back to start on what heat setting they are on - 2000W it would switch off and on over the hour to stop it getting too hot but make sure it was hot enough for your setting.. so wouldnt really be 80p. Hope that helps a bit.0 -
When I moved into Chez Troubleatmill the house was full of the oil filled types. Absolutely hopeless at heating a room and cost a fortune to run.
Had my first winter with those and never again - got gas central heating in. Never regreted it.

Until a few days ago I was using an oil filled radiator in the kitchen because I did not want to heat the whole house. Now because it has got a lot colder the heating is on all over for a couple of hours in the morning and about four hours late afternoon/evening.
I would expect the cost to be more to heat the whole house with oil filled radiators compared to gas cental heating but I think the way I do it is not too bad.0 -

I'd go with the hot air gas heating, instant heat and cheaper to run. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Can you turn off the CH in the rooms you are not using? If not, using the oli-filled radiators to heat just the rooms you are using may work out cheaper than heating the whole house.0

You can close of the vents to the rooms you don't need heating. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc...
