The weather outside is awful, its 3.00pm dark and raining with a storm brewing in from the Atlantic, but hey what does it matter when your heart lifts after sending a little one a e.mail and hope that he enjoys reading it.
I have a new best friend and his name is Jack, I hope that this is going to be a lasting friendship even though he is 7 and I'm 53.
Please dont feel like you have nothing to say to these kids, my e.mail was rambling on about my 2 dogs and how naughty 1 of them is, my favourite Disney film and what was I going to do about Father Xmas coming down the chimney...when I haven't got a chimney!
I have this sudden urge to wish that my kids were living back home so I could give them a hug..
Babs xPlease pull my nightie down when you have finished0 -
Thanks Beamish, its lovely to know that such a little action can create such a big difference to someone's lives - just to know that people care and are thinking about them !
I think they'd be happy with reading anything. Its definately the thought that counts !

Wow, I have done no work at all today. I sat at my desk for ages reading through everyones pages, then I ordered some story audio books for some blind children and then I walked over the shop to buy some foam stars to put on the wrapping paper (so they can feel them when they open them). I sat and wrote out a card to one kid and it took me ages and ages. It is very hard to know what to write, but you have to try to put yourself in their position and wonder what you would like to know/hear about from people.
I have a stack of work in my in-tray now lol but it gives you a great sense of satisfaction just to know that you may have put a smile on one persons face!0 -
We have 4 grandchildren. 3 we see most weeks, 1 we have never seen because the mother has an injunction against the whole family (long story)
My mother is in hospital with a brain tumor that has caused strokes and is waiting for surgery. I still can not find the courage or ability to send an email yet but I personally thank every one who has become involved.
I can not begin to imagine the pain that any parent would go through after reading some of the children's profiles.
I can only pass on my thanks and respect to the MSE forum users for keeping this going.0 -
I agree, there are some terrible situations out there for people and I expect it's little things like this that manage to help put a smile on their faces, even if for only a while. bones61 hope all goes well with your mother0

Hi everyone, I hope I dont get too philosophical here but today is an important day for me, a day for remembering an absent friend and the good things in life.... Anyway I thought I would post a story that I read recently, that will probably mean something to those who have posted here, and to you bones61 too, its all to do with the little things that we do in life such as sending emails, or presents, or in your case bones61 for loving & supporting your mum.... We should all be proud of the things we are doing, no matter how small or big, it all means a lot in the end.... Sending hugs to your mum Bones61.... x x x

Chicken Soup for the Soul

One morning an older man was walking along a beach and saw a younger man in the distance who appeared to be dancing in the sand.
As the older man got closer he saw that the young man was not dancing, but was picking up starfish from the beach and throwing them back into the sea.
As the older man came upon the younger man he asked, "Young man, what are you doing?"
The young man turned to the older man and said, "Well, you see, the sun is up and the tide is out and if these starfish do not get back into the sea they will die."
"But young fellow," the older man said, "Look ahead of you. There are miles and miles of beach and thousands of starfish. You can't possibly make a difference."
The young man looked at the older man and then looked at the starfish in his hand.
He gently tossed the starfish into the sea and then turned to the older man and said, "Well, I made a difference to that one."Official DFW Nerd 2100
