SANTANDER, WHAT A JOKE!!! What can we do??

I banked with Abbey for many years, no problem. Now to cut to the chase can anyone offer any advise please.
I took out a 0% credit card with Santander. Obviously I also bank with Santander (Not for much longer). I completed all the application etc etc. Card arrived, I filed it as I transfered a balance with my application. I noticed the monthly payment had not been taken whilst checking my on line account. I call them advised can take upto 30 days to action a DD? OK I made a payment via online account. This was early December. A few days later letter from Santander, late payment blah blah, oh and a £12.00 charge. I logged on to see my payment I made had been returned to my account. I called Santander, I entered an incorrect number, I was told. OK can you cancel the £12.00 charge and I will make a payment now. Told the charge would be cancelled. I made another payment this time for two months. The following day I had a letter explaining my initial payment had been retuned as "the account does not exist" . I logged on and my 2nd payment was still showing as paid. 12th Dec another stroppy letter from Santander, no payment blah blah. I logged on to see my second payment had been returned! I double checked everything, I had entered all the details I had. I called Santander, which was a total waste of time. No sensible answer to my enquiry.
I then started having phone calls, morning, afternoon sand evening, I was giving an incorrect account number, and can I make a payment on blah blah blah account number, which i said was not my account. So I refused. The calls are basically harassment. I wrote a letter of complaint, stating I am more than happy to pay my account, in fact I have made two attempts already which keep getting retuned. I enclosed a cheque for £200.00 asking that to be credited to my account and as and when I have notice that my direct debit has been set up I will continue to pay as per normal. Heard nothing apart from two letters each one getting more threatening, but each letter stating a different account number to the one I have been given and detailed on my card and all earlier corospondance! I am now being told that debt recovery persons will be appointed if I fail to make a payment. I see they have marked my credit report and have suspended "my account" and reduced the credit limit, not that makes any matter to me.
But I have done nothing wrong, yet Santander will not accept that the account number I have, that they gave me is my account!!!! HELP:mad:
